Our Educational Approach

At Little Creators, children learn through play-based experiences, strong relationships and meaningful everyday interactions.

Our approach is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), with a focus on curiosity, exploration and intentional teaching.

Play-based and child-led learning

Children engage in uninterrupted, open-ended play supported by carefully curated materials across our learning environments. These experiences allow children to investigate, create and problem-solve in ways that support deep thinking, creativity and engagement.

Sustained time for play supports children to:

  • develop ideas over time
  • build relationships
  • revisit learning
  • engage deeply in their own thinking

Children move freely between indoor and outdoor environments throughout the day, supporting choice, independence and active learning.

The role of the educator

Educators support learning by observing, listening and responding to children’s ideas, strengths and interests. These observations guide intentional teaching that extends thinking through play and everyday experiences. Caregiving experiences such as meals, rest, toileting, nappy changing and hygiene are embedded throughout the day. These moments are calm, respectful and unhurried, supporting children’s wellbeing, independence and sense of security.

EYLF learning outcomes

Our program is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting every child’s learning across five outcomes:

  • Children have a strong sense of identity
  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  • Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  • Children are confident and involved learners
  • Children are effective communicators

Key features of our approach

Emergent curriculum

Learning develops from children’s interests, questions and ideas. Educators reflect and respond to extend learning in meaningful ways.

Collaborative learning

We build strong relationships between children, educators and families, supporting belonging, confidence and social development.

Environment as the third teacher

Our environments are intentionally designed to support exploration, independence and creativity.

Inquiry-based learning

Children’s ideas and questions guide deeper investigations over time through play, experimentation and reflection.

What we incorporate

Healthy lifestyles

Children develop wellbeing through active play, rest, nutrition, hygiene and emotional regulation. Caregiving experiences are embedded throughout the day to support independence and wellbeing.

Culture and diversity

We value and embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives alongside diverse global cultures to foster respect and understanding.

Sustainability

Children engage with the natural world through gardening, recycling, reducing waste and everyday environmental experiences.

STEAM learning

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics are integrated through hands-on exploration, design and problem-solving.

Learning domains

Our curriculum supports holistic development across:

  • Cognitive development: problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Language and literacy: communication and early literacy
  • Social and emotional development: relationships and collaboration
  • Physical development: movement and coordination
  • Creative expression: art, music and imagination

Our approach in practice

Learning is intentional, responsive and embedded in everyday experiences. Through play, relationships, environments and caregiving moments, children are supported to explore, learn and grow in meaningful and connected ways.
